“Show the racism the red card”
Everton striker Victor Anichebe gave his public backing for England’s’ Show Racism the Red Card ‘campaign today, attending a fans’ forum on the issue at Goodison Park with the former Fulham and West Ham United striker Leroy Rosenior.
A Nigerian international, Lagos-born but raised in Liverpool, was unequivocal about the positive work that is in action to help eradicate bias from the game.
“This is a great message to show to people,” said evertonTV.
“Young children are those who will change the future. Indeed, we can not go back and change the past, so you should teach the young ones.
“When people are racist to the normal age of younger, when I say this not really knowing what to say and then they keep saying. If you get a message to them when they’re young then you can change that.”
And striker concluded highlighting not only the fact that things have progressed to the stage in England, where he openly racist incidents in the conduct of football are rare, but the work was done in arriving at such a point.
He said: “Show Racism the red card is a great organization. Thanks to projects like this, incidents of racism in England are now much less frequently, and that can only be good for the game.”
